back is mostly better

31 05 2008

Well, I participated in three softball games today and the back is pretty much o.k. I am still aching when I try to bend over to pick something up (can’t really do it), but I can function. We did not win the tournament and did not get to the semi-finals (which we did for the last three years) - oh well, there is always next year. We had great fun though and it was a wonderful family day!

softball workout - forgot to track!

31 05 2008

Hell if I am going to not get credit for a workout! I wrote a post re: the game, but forgot to track to actual physical workout. I played in three games, but I am only entering 1 1/2 hours of workout. Considering warm-up, at bat times, running times, and walking back & forth to the car and the bathroom at least (5-6 times during the day) which was about a 150 yard walk each way. The rest of the time I stood around, chatted and ate!

slowly getting better!?

30 05 2008

Have not worked out since - what maybe last Friday. Not sure, but I think my back is healing. It is so weird, I wake up in the a.m. and it feels fine, then slowly it gets worse and worse during the morning until I cannot move, bend, etc. Of course the baby is getting into the stage where he just drops all of his 32 lbs. and goes “boneless” if he doesn’t want me to pick him up because he has something else in mind. Damn, it hurts to try to move him. Especially when he is wet and in the tub and wont get out. Arrrrrrghh!

But, tonight it feels like it may be getting a tad better. I did not take any where near the amount of Motrin that I have taken on Tues, Wed & Thurs. Tomorrow is a charity softball tournament that I look forward to ALL year. We are scheduled to play three games (four if we make it to the final game). Every year we miss winning the tournament by one game. I don’t know if I will be able to play.
: ^ ( I even had knee surgery and timed it so I would be ready to play this year. We will see. I am going to do the heating pad and some Motrin tonight, maybe a shot of JD (kidding).

dead in the water

29 05 2008

Man, lugging the rocks killed me. I think I may have done something serious to my back beyond just simple soreness or a pull. The pain is sooooooo bad. This a.m. I woke thinking that it should be better today (since it was Monday that I hauled the rocks, and today is Thursday), damnned if it didn’t start to scream by the time I threw on some clothes and went downstairs to start the day. Crap.

So, I am going to pop 4 Motrin and see what happens. I have an annual softball tournament that we participate in every year on Saturday. This sucks. So, I hope that the Motrin will work today because never mind running or pilates, I can’t carry my baby. Sneezing is the worst (bad allergies) and I cant bend over to do anything. I want to cry, it hurts that much.

oh #*@%, now what have I done?

27 05 2008

Wow, so my day started out as usual and then as the day progressed my back started to scream. It feels like someone hit me with an axe across my lower back. I was sitting at lunch today with the youngest child thinking to myself, “I feel like I am about to pass out (or throw up) from the pain, I cannot even move to clear the table”. It is the worst back pain that I can remember since I was in labor with my first child 8 years ago with horrible back labor for three days.

“I think it could be closely related to the lugging of rocks yesterday, not sure….” she says in a REALLY SARCASTIC TONE!!!!

Good Lord, yet another one step forward and two back. Off to bed with a cup of Sleepytime Tea a bottle of Motrin and a heating pad.

And yet another beautiful day!

26 05 2008

I think I know how the early settlers stayed in shape without having a gym or running shoes. It is called digging and hauling rocks up out of the woods. Man, it is tough work. Thank God my husband is interested in helping me because I cannot carry the big rocks (100 lbs.ish) myself and the wall would be all little ones. It is quite a feeling of accomplishment to “un-earth” these huge stones. The wall is looking great! First thing this a.m. we finished edging the rest of the perennial gardens, and then for about 4 hours worked on the rocks. We added about another 15 feet.

The children had yet another beautiful day to keep in their “childhood memories” area of their brains! Back to the grind tomorrow. Pilates in the a.m.

the nicest day

25 05 2008

I finally had one of those days where I had no commitments, no appointments, and no errands. I have been craving this for weeks - with my husband gone during the week working on the movie for the last few months. We (myself, husband and all three children) made it out to the yard by 12:00 p.m., leaving a tidy house behind and stayed outside doing yard work that has been neglected. It felt so great to just be together outside and not worry about being anywhere or rushing. I am so looking forward to the children being out of school so that we can have more days like this. I love it.

We edged a bunch of perennial border gardens and mulched. We planted a few shrubs because I am starting to border the entire yard (that isn’t already bordered with perennials) with flowering shrubs and interesting trees (mind you, we live in the forest - so, she plants MORE trees!). The children ran around all day between our house and our neighbors with their bathing suits on, having one of those wonderful carefree days that you will always remember from your childhood. The bugs weren’t that bad today, the sky was an amazing shade of blue the ENTIRE day. The baby slept for a nice 2 1/2 hr. nap allowing us to get a lot of work done without having to stop every 5 mins. Tomorrow we will be digging & schlepping rocks out of the woods to do some more work on the rock wall that we started a few weeks ago.

What a perfect long weekend day!

run, run, run - gatorgirlmaggiemay inspired run!

23 05 2008

So, I was checking out sweat365 posts today and I was really inspired by gatorgirlaggiemay’s blog. I started the day knowing I was going to do pilates but not really feeling like getting on the “mill” after yesterday’s return to running. But, I was inspired, SO I RAN (to quote “Flock of Seaguls”).

I walked briskly for 1/10 mi. and then ran my little heart out. If you check my other avg. paces, this was a good time for me if you subtract the walking distance. I was at a few points during the 23 mins. (which felt like 23 hours) - running at a 10 min/mi. I am really proud of myself. I just kept going, and going. I still get that sensation like I am going to have a stroke - not really light headed or dizzy, but really hot in my head, like I wish I had a little trap door at the top of my head that I could open to cool it off. I also, as I have mentioned in previous posts, get REALLY red in the face. I am so damn hot and sweaty as I type this, even my belly button is sweating. Gross.

But, thank you gatorgirlmaggiemay for giving me some inspiration today on a day when: my oldest daughter had a huge tantrum before 7:00 a.m. (on her 8th birthday) about clothes, my allergies are killing me and I just didn’t feel like doing any of it! You rock!

pilates and thats it.

23 05 2008

Just pilates, oh, and my head hurts and I want to stop, but I don’t. I did it in jeans again today, I think I like doing this workout in jeans, the circle doesn’t hurt my legs if I am wearing them, they kind of act like a thick buffer. I WILL run this a.m. Can’t run in jeans however, going up to change into running gear.

little run

22 05 2008

Just a little run. I was going to run 1 mile and walk a bit, but man with 2 weeks of not running, I was winded and done after .85 mi. So I walked for the last .20. My legs felt fine, I was just winded. But, I did get back onto the treadmill as I said I would and doing it is half the battle. I will try to sneak in 20 mins. of pilates this a.m. before we get on with our day.
